The session is the court having original jurisdiction over the members of a congregation. The Session consists of the pastor and the ruling elders.
The pastor is an ordinary office instituted by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:11) who preaches the Word of God with the authority of King Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:20). The pastor also is the one who administers the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's supper. Pastors also have the key of the kingdom to govern and oversee the flock (Acts 20:28).
The office of ruling elder is also an ordinary office instituted by Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 12:28) who are elected from among the local body of the Church. Their primary function is the proper governance and oversight of the life and practice of the congregation and they represent the congregation in all the courts of the Church (1 Timothy 3:5).
The Diaconate is a spiritual office responsible for the ministry of mercy and stewardship of the congregation (Acts 6:2-4, 6; 1 Timothy 3:8-13). Its exercise, like the whole life of the church, is under the oversight of the session.
Pastor Edgar Ibarra was born and raised in San Francisco, California and served eight years in the Marine Corps. He was ordained and installed as pastor of Las Vegas Reformed Presbyterian Church on July 9th, 2021. Pastor Ibarra completed his Master of Divinity at Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2022. He currently serves as Chairman of the Central and South America (CASA) Committee for the Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America. Pastor Ibarra has been married to Juana since 1994, and they have six grown children.
Colin grew up in Southern California and was raised in a Christian family. He had the blessing of walking with the Lord from childhood. He married his wife Brooke in 2016, and together they have four children. Colin moved to the Las Vegas area in 2021 and has been a member of Las Vegas Reformed Presbyterian Church since then. By trade, he works as an elevator mechanic. Colin was ordained to the office of Ruling Elder in 2024.
